The story behind SCRiBE

Michigan Emergency Training Institute is an EMS education school in Michigan. METI built SCRiBE because the people running the classes wanted to change the way EMS education is delivered and tracked — one connected record instead of disconnected hours logs, spreadsheets, and paper packets.

The name SCRiBE was inspired by one of the most important responsibilities in EMS: telling the complete story of the patient encounter. Every assessment, intervention, decision, and outcome becomes part of that story through accurate documentation.

That idea became SCRiBE — Student Clinical Reporting, interventions, Benchmarking & Evaluation.

SCRiBE was created to bring the entire EMS student clinical experience into one connected platform. Rather than simply logging hours or checking boxes, students document real patient encounters, record the interventions they perform, track their progress toward required benchmarks, and receive meaningful evaluations from the professionals guiding their education.

The name also reflects the traditional meaning of a scribe — someone entrusted with creating an accurate record of what occurred. In EMS education, that record represents more than documentation. It demonstrates experience, progression, and ultimately, competency.

Michigan Emergency Training Institute builds and operates SCRiBE as part of the METI App Ecosystem. It is an educational documentation platform — not an agency ePCR and not a replacement for a patient medical record.
